Current Chapter
Chapter 2!
Chapter 2 is where we really get to what's going on. It explains Zidane's main questions "Why does Eclipse get to leave" "How did Drake get involved in this" as well as showing one of the things constantly brought up by fans about OMWF in that Drake starts off as a good enough person, and there are comments made by people saying "He wasn't always like this"
But also, this was a school project where we were to debate nature from nurture. Can a perfect prince be turned into a devious demon due to how they are raised, or does a person’s natural instinct take over at all? The topic of my project was the fact that both the soul and surrounding influence a person. It's how some victims of child abuse turn into abusers while others become saviors. It's how twin siblings can grow up together and turn out completely different.
In OMWF we know Eclipse raised Drake and that Eclipse is beyond evil. Yet Drake turns out to be on the side of good. In chapter 2, we see more as to why. This story is full of the theories and concepts about how much influence a soul has on a person. It’s an issue very close to my heart and as any fans of my stories knows, that’s when I take the best control of my writing. I’ve always disliked the idea that just because my father was cruel and conniving, that I would be, too. So this story is dedicated to everyone else who have felt the same. I know a lot of you have parents who are hateful toward a group or idea… my mother was always very against gay rights, but I wrote Jesse’s Story. That story did not make her an activist or make her think that everyone who was homosexual was actually perfectly fine, but it did show her that there are instances where it’s not the persons choice to be gay, it’s just how they were made and we shouldn’t torture them for it. I know lots of you have similar events in your life! Events where you’ll look at your surroundings and wonder how you came out of that. Feel free to share your feelings and events on the topic!

The dragon looked so huggable in the pictures! You just want to squeeze it and hug it and hang on to him forever! No wonder why he likes it so much.
I agree with you. This chapter does show how it influnces people and the pyschological depth in this. When I thought about how people were being made fun of because they were gay or anything else, I always thought that they were somehow affected isomewhere in their life or it was something else completely but people don't need to mock them for that. In a way, our soul and our surroundings change us gradually and we don't see the depth of it until someone points it out a long time from them. You don't realize who you are or what you are really doing. In a way you're kind of waking up from a dream and have a close look of themselves. But that's only in some cases. Prejudice against someonw before knowing what had happened to them is just unreasonable when we look at it from a third person point of view but when you look at it from a first person point of view, you can't see another way of thinking of it. When you said that people thought your father was cruel, I thought: They don't know everything., they only know a part. But if you hadn't look at it that way, the whole prejudice thing starts. But enough of me talkingg, I'll let others talk.

Fantastic chapter and fantastic review by trikari. I could not have said it better myself.
I mean lets take my two cats for example. I got them from the same liter at 6 weeks old and they have been together ever since. We do not treat either one any different from the other but they each have there own personalilties.
I am almost positive that a person is born with a peronsality blue-print already drawn up. The persons surroundings make cause small edits to that blue-print but the original design is always there in the back-ground.

I believe that we are born with a blank slate and that our surroundings shape us at a young age but as we get older we choose how we are.
People are not born with hate, prejudice, or even compassion, and love. They are given to us by the people we grow up around. I feel the only thing you are truly born with is the basic understanding of right and wrong, it is just our choice if we listen or not. We may grow up in a family of people who dislike gays but as we get older they stop effecting our understanding of things and we then make the choice for ourselves wither we go down the same path as them or a different one.
I have a friend who's parents are very anti-black and he was while he was growing up but he reached a certain age and asked 'what is wrong with them?' He asked his parent, his teachers, and his friends. He was told a multitude of thing so he went up to a black boy at school and became friends with him and he found out that they were far from different.
I believe that nobody can make us what we don't want to be and with a little effort we can be what we want.
It was a really good chapter Ravyn, it showed a different side to Drake which we haven't seen yet and it gives us a brief indication of what Eclipse went through to get to where he is.

Thank you! This is what I believe but I summed it up over years of watching other people and observing my own behavior. Munchinmonster may also be right about people being a blank page (I prefer to say page because usually we'll see a binder paper and the lines represent the basic understanding or right and wrong) but we cannot however prove that, it may be as Solark said, we all already have a blue-print. This is just what we believe and we may go on believing this.
Usually when we are young we take on the personality of the people surrounding us. but there may be rare cases where people don't. Because those cases are rare, the prejudice within the people is born. How many years did it take for Germany to regain its image after WWII? But even now, people are still suspicious with the doubt in the back of their heads though they may not know it themselves. If we didn't experience people having prejudice toward us, we may not even bring up this issue but people have prejudice, we can't erase that. At first, people thought the indians were harmful, they arent. They thought that Chinese were only good for work, they aren't. They thought that black people were ingerior to them, they aren't (as proven by munchimonster). How many years can people harbor prejudice in their hearts? It depends on how they were shaped as they were growing up. Some people lived in a harsh enviorment and can forgive easily, some were raised in a relaxed enviorment and cannot forgive easily, vice versa. What ever happened in our past affected our future.
I talked too much again, I'll let other people talk....

AH!!! I am SOOO proud of all of you!! People told me not to do an entire forum thread or put up so much information because "fanfiction readers won't take the time to read it all" and so many said no one would understand, but you guys have proved them wrong!
Look what we have done here!
All of out views differ slightly, of course. We were all raised in different places and different situations and even now we all are separate from one another, yet we share ourselves with each other online. Not only has everyone expressed their beliefs, they also show proof that we’ve read each others opinions!
There is no fighting, no arguments, no petty “You’re WRONG!” bitch fests… There also is no half-arsed “X is right. I agree.” Short little reviews (sept mine…). Everyone deeply expressed themselves and even return to further this intellectual conversation!
I love writing TRLF because it lets me get to these depths. It has some goof off scenes because… well, I’m writing it in my free time for fun, but it also has real insight to it that I am SO proud of you all for understanding!
Munchin and a few others have read some of my published work and original fictions, so I’m sure they’ll agree with me when I say I put intense issues into my original writings. TRLF allows me to do that better than OMWF so I know we’ll have even more of these types of conversations and remember to always feel free to share your opinion on it! Even if my initial comment is short, if there is something in the chapter you caught, share it! I might be trying to see who does catch it, or I might… be lazy and cut the authors note short…

I agree! You've all done really well to think about it so deeply. Back when I was taking psychology classes, the nature vs nurture argument/dilemma was something that played a big part in scientific research and still refuses to be definitively answered to this day. Thank you all for trying so hard to ponder this enigma, and others that will come!

I asked the people around me if they think we were born with a "blue-print" or born as a "blank slate with a basic understanding of right and wrong". Everybody answered blueprint. But when I started observing my own actions, I realized those were the actions of my friends. I am very affected by those around me. Sometimes I even think like my friends. I now consider the fact that we are both. Some of us were born as a blue print while others are born as a blank slate or both. The both part comes from genetics. Some people in your heritage might be very strongly influenced by those around them. But that part would be blueprint, but if you are strongly influenced by those around you, you are a blank slate. So that's how I think we can be beth.
